ahsDRAMA is proud to present its fall show, Bang Bang You're Dead, by award-winning playwright William Mastrosimone.

The play was written as a response to the 1998 school shooting by Kip Kinkel at Thurston High School in Springfield, Oregon. Here, Kinkel shot and killed his parents and two students at his school, and injured 25 more. Bang Bang You're Dead centers on the character of Josh, a teenage boy who shoots his parents and five schoolmates and is then haunted by the physical manifestations of his memories of them. Through this show, actors are encouraged to discover the "why" behind such a senseless act of violence.

The performace will be followed by an interaction between the cast and the audience, allowing for the exploration of reactions and feelings and opening a dialogue between family members and friends. It is our hope that increased awareness of the often-downplayed problem of the subtle violence and teasing between tenagers in schools can help all of us understand our part in the cause and prevention of school shootings in the future.

Admission to the show is free. Donations will be accepted, and all proceeds will be donated to the D.A.R.E. Program of Athens County.

Show up early for a walk-through exhibit about school shooters and what goes on in the minds of these troubled teens.
